How Do You Say Boyfriend In French

By

Loved it! 😍

Sinful, Decadent, and Luxurious! Both the chocolate and the romance <3

Alexandra has a problem: she has to make a couture chocolate gown for a luxury brand in Paris . . . But that's the easy part. Her real challenge comes in the form of Renaud Toussaint, he's as titillating and tempting as she chocolates she makes and Alex knows that outside of the BDSM sex dungeon they frequent as Domme and Sub, she should be keeping things strictly professional.

However, just like the sweet confections she creates, with each small taste of Renaud she finds herself wanting more. More than friendship. More than the dungeon. She wants Renaud in each facet of her life, both public and private.

This novel is so deliciously French that sinking into it is like luxuriating in a warm bath with a glass of wine. Set in Paris, it leans into all the parts of France that feel both luxurious and foreign to give readers a truly immersive experience. From the cuisine, culture, fashion, architecture, every detail is written to lovebomb readers with the author's true affection for Paris and France in general. At times, this felt heavy, as if my knowledge of the language, and places was lacking for true understanding but overall I really enjoyed the attention to detail.

Additionally, the romance in this novel was *chef's kiss* in a word: magnifique! We are dropped immediately into a true to life BDSM scene between Alex and Renaud in the dungeon at the onset if this novel, which initially made me think this would be more BDSM heavy and fetishized regarding the kink lifestyle but I was pleasantly surprised by the balance and care with which the BDSM aspects of the relationship were written. It wasn't the sex club scenes where the romance was really developed, it was in the slow, normal, tension-filled moments of the character's every day lives. The sex club scenes only acted as a lens by which they could concentrate those feelings and connect in a way that felt natural and enigmatic.

While there is a lot to love about this book, I was quite disappointed by the fact that this is a 2nd novel and one that does not hold up on its own. It took quite a while to get acclimated with characters as I felt there was a lack of backstory and adequate explanation for readers to easily drop into the series. It also felt at times that I was missing important moments from Alex and Renaud's history together and individually for me to fully connect in certain scenes.

All in all, very well done! I would definitely recommend this book for fans of romance as it does read like a beautiful Mashup of Chocolat and The Salacious Players Club Series.
